OCEOS in Satellite Navigation

January 2022 - January 2023

Company RISE was designing a navigation system to improve the accuracy of existing global navigation infrastructure. The very small design for nano-satellites is powered by a microcontroller and requires a highly reliable, small memory footprint, and efficient real-time operating system to manage the different tasks involved in delivering the additional navigational accuracy. OCEOS was selected as it offered some unique features and was accompanied by a graphic debug tool to improve the productivity of the embedded engineers working on the project.

Solar Array Drive for Satellites

January 2017 - January 2023

Swiss-based design house Nanotronic was commissioned to design a solar array drive for satellites. This subsystem controls motors to ensure that the solar cell panels that generate power for the satellite are always pointing towards the sun and optimising the angles for maximum power generation. OCE's four-core radiation hardened system-on-chip was selected as the processor for the project. Its high performance, and radiation hardened design to prevent the high-energy particles, common in space, from disrupting the operation of the motor drives. OCE's chip has build in error-checking on internal caches and external memories to correct any data corrupted by these high-energy particles. Already there are twenty of these devices deployed in low-earth orbits.
