Epona Biotech is an Irish animal health diagnostics company that develops and manufactures rapid diagnostic tests for equine applications. Founded in 2008 by Dr. Heinrich Anhold, the company pioneered the use of Serum Amyloid A (SAA) as a biomarker for detecting infection in horses. The company developed and commercialized Stablelab, a handheld reader and test platform for measuring SAA, which became widely adopted in the equine veterinary market. In 2019, Epona licensed global manufacturing and distribution rights for its Stablelab products while retaining ownership of key intellectual property. In 2021, Epona launched the Sidekick platform, a next-generation rapid testing system designed to expand beyond a single biomarker and support a broader portfolio of veterinary diagnostics. The company is now focused on its Intellectual Property portfolio and scaling Sidekick.
