Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme

Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme

March 2015 - August 2024

The Blanchardstown Regional Drainage Scheme addresses Dublin's urgent wastewater infrastructure needs amid rapid urban growth. Built in the 1970s, the Tolka Valley’s sewer system has faced overflows, risking public health and the environment. Ayesa was appointed by Uisce Éireann, as the consulting engineer, lead designer, and Employer’s Representative for this €88 million project to expand and modernize the network, installing over 3 km of new lines and adding a 30,000 m³ stormwater storage facility beneath Waterville Park. Advanced micro-tunneling minimized surface disruption, while upgrades to the 9C sewer and a new pumping station improved capacity. Environmental safeguards, including odor control and hydrogen sulfide management, were integral. Additionally, a sedum-roofed above-ground MEICA facility supports sustainability. Completed in 2019, the project enhances wastewater management in line with the EU directive, bolstering resilience in Dublin’s growing urban landscape.
