Tarstone Road Maintenance Ltd is a family-owned SME, specialising in road maintenance, surfacing and repair. The business is based in Meath and employs around 80 people. Since 1998, Tarstone has expanded and built its respected reputation through a comprehensive, one-stop service range offering of road maintenance services and reparations. In 2023, the company celebrated 25 years in business and now plans to expand beyond its core business, entering new markets, driven by a strong internal management team and a culture embracing innovation and change. At the heart of its expansion plans are greener, more sustainable, safer and improved industry solutions. Tarstone is accredited to ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 and is fully committed to providing a professional service to all clients. This is aided by a policy of training, development and innovation whilst also adhering to the highest standards of health and safety.
Tarstone manufactures a CE-approved paving grade mastic asphalt on site (Roadmastic) for use on roads, airfields and other trafficked areas. Currently, Tarstone supply and utilise this product via our own professionally trained and dedicated ironwork installation and reinstatement crews. This product is renowned and unique in the industry: it has preferable application in numerous road maintenance scenarios compared with traditional methods, primarily due to its durability and flexibility properties, and for economic, cost-related reasons. The Tarstone accredited ironwork reinstatement solution simply delivers cost savings over the life of the installation, providing a minimum 5-year warranty - resolving an ongoing industry issue and reducing costs in the long run.
This Roadmastic (trademarked), polymer modified mastic product is used almost exclusively for ironwork installations and reinstatements due to its flexibility and durability properties. It stands the test of time, and trafficking, with installations dating back to 2010 still intact on our roads. Roadmastic can also be used for infill, imprinted asphalt, mastic channels and patching purposes.
Tarstone is a member of the International Mastic Asphalt Association (IMAA) which allows it to keep abreast of international developments, specifications and new technology in relation to mastic asphalt. Cathal Fahy, Tarstone's Technical Director, also sits on the TII Industry Technical Group and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transportation and the Institute of Asphalt Technology. All of these industry memberships and influencing bodies keep Tarstone abreast of standards and specifications in relation to bituminous products and road safety best practice.
Tarstone acknowledges that selecting the best products and services in accordance with current legislation can be a daunting challenge with factors such as compliance, operator and public safety, ergonomics and asset security, budget, and service user satisfaction all requiring equal consideration. For this reason, Tarstone offers a full training and support package on the benefits and application of polymer modified mastic asphalt. This training service is CPD accredited and is offered as part of the licence package. Roadmastic is currently exported under licence to Northern Ireland and the company is seeking to extend this offering to road contractors further afield in similar circumstances.
