MAREWIND

MAREWIND

-

MAREWIND aims to revolutionise offshore wind technology by enhancing materials durability, recyclability, and reducing maintenance in wind structures. Key objectives include corrosion protection, biocide-free antifouling solutions, erosion protection for blades, predictive monitoring, and improving recyclability. This initiative is crucial for advancing Europe's offshore wind sector, currently leading globally with 22,072 MW installed. MAREWIND targets significant cost reductions, environmental impact mitigation, and job creation, supporting EU renewable energy targets for 2030. ÉireComposites, an SME partner and wind blade manufacturer, specialises in powder epoxy manufacturing for carbon-fibre spar caps, pivotal for enhancing wind blade components and project success. Funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 programme, MAREWIND is set to innovate and strengthen Europe's position in offshore wind.

AIRPOXY

AIRPOXY

-

The AIRPOXY project aims to develop thermoformable, repairable, and bondable epoxy-based composites for aeronautical structures. The goal is to reduce production and maintenance costs in the aeronautical sector by introducing a novel family of thermoset composites. These materials retain traditional thermoset advantages while offering new features such as reprocessability, reparability, and recyclability. ÉireComposites will leverage its expertise in thermoforming and bonding to manufacture proof-of-concept components, showcasing the benefits of these advanced composite materials. This project is funded under H2020-MG-2017, Mobility for Growth.

FreeForm-OPTIX

FreeForm-OPTIX

-

Advanced optics are vital for high-tech applications, employing mirrors, lenses, and prisms for data collection and photonics for fast processing. However, manufacturing high-specification mirrors, especially freeform ones, faces scalability and cost challenges. Optical Inter-Satellite Links (OISLs) require affordable, high-volume solutions. Current methods are slow and costly, with each 100mm mirror taking over a day and costing €30,000. The FreeForm-OPTIX consortium aims to disrupt traditional manufacturing with novel process chains through two pilot lines, empowering SMEs to establish automated production. These advances will benefit space optics, 5G, medical devices, wearables, and semiconductor lithography sectors. Funded by the Disruptive Technologies Innovation Fund, the project aims to position Ireland as a leader in advanced optics, setting new standards and accessing emerging high-tech markets with innovative, high-value products.

DigiStent

DigiStent

-

DigiStent, a wireless digital stent aiming for over 95% accuracy in predicting failure modes, addresses the high mortality rate of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA), which risk 80-90% immediate death if ruptured. Annually, 200,000 US men over 55 are diagnosed. Endovascular Aneurysm Repair, with a 30% failure rate causing death in 37% of cases, prompts DigiStent's development. This AI-driven solution offers continuous stent monitoring for early endoleak detection, endorsed by international experts for its novelty and clinical potential. Using novel materials, manufacturing IP, AI analytics, and bio-sensor integration, DigiStent pioneers the world’s first wireless digital stent platform. It aims to reassure patients, cut medical costs, and save lives. The consortium secured €4 million from Enterprise Ireland under DTIF Call 6.
